URBAN DESIGN AND LAND PLANNING
After just watching the "Day of a President" with Tom Brokaw following a day of our leaders life, may I awkwardly present the product of a half day last week on a mission for a client.
Last year I was commissioned by August Amour of Golden State Realty to do a urban design for a parcel he was marketing for a client. The land plan was for a commercial site located on HWY 99 and Taft Highway. The plan as rendered below took a couple of days to complete

This last week in half a day I altered and original plan that I had completed the year before. The plan hereunder is the one Augie Amour received after complying with his revised business plan for the property.

It may be hard to see the differences but there are now three "fast food pads" in font of the commercial shopping complex.
So much for a couple of days work on the drawing board. The wonderful thing is that there are presently two gas stations in use and a fast food facility is serving customers on Taft highway.

CONTEXT SENSITIVE SOLUTIONS FOR TRANSPORTATION PROFFESSIONAL
A new website has been launched for professionals and non-professionals
interested in transportation planning that looks beyond the pavement to
the role that streets and roads
can play in enhancing communities and natural environments - be they
urban, suburban or rural, scenic or historical. Through a planning and
design process that encourages practitioners to collaborate with
communities, context sensitive solutions respond to local needs and
values while accommodating the safe movement of motor vehicles.
This is a new site that all disciplines should review. One sincerely hopes that all County, City & KCOG transportation planners review this site for context.
